About 4 AM, San Diego, California police got an unusual call from the Ocean Beach neighborhood. Residents there reported that a sea lion cub was in the street. So, like they normally do, a black-and-white cop car rolled out to investigate the situation. Little did they know they were going to get in a four-hour-long stand-off. When the officers stopped to investigate, the sea lion cub hid under their patrol car, and growled when they tried to pull him free!
Given that cops are used to dealing with crazy people, and not crazy animals, they turned to the experts at SeaWorld for help. Some four hours later, SeaWorld rescuer Kevin Robinson successfully managed to slide the 25-pound pup out from under the car. The youngester was dehydrated, and only about half the weight he should be for his, but is otherwise healthy. SeaWorld plans on holding onto him for a few months to let him get his health back before rereleasing him into the wild.
Hopefully by the time he’s released, he’ll be too big to hide under cop cars! Reports that the pup barked, “You’ll never take me alive, pigs!” before diving under the care have proven to be unfounded. Before long he’ll be joining his fellow ex-con sea lions hanging out on the beach, smoking and lifting weights.
