One of the lessons I learned from Kevin Smith’s movie Clerks is that sometimes, you just have to let those hard-to-reach chips go. In the movie, a customer memorably gets his hand stuck in a Pringles can, and Dante gives him this advice in the store as he leaves. In reality, sometimes you have to let those hard-to-reach phones go too, so you don’t end up like one unlucky Chinese student. The male, a student at Chongqing Technology and Business University, got his hand stuck in the toilet after he dropped his cell phone in there.
To his credit, he did wrap some newspaper around his arm in an attempt to keep his arm clean, but when he tried to reach around the toilet’s U-bend to get at his lost cell phone, he got stuck. He called to his roommates, who were unable to free him. Firefighters were eventually called (they can rescue you from anything in China) and they had to use specialized tools to help him escape his watery shackles.
No word on the final fate of his phone, but I’d imagine it’s in a crocodile’s belly right now.
