When all the privacy concerns about Facebook started to pop up, like everyone else I got a bit worried. After all, my profile on Facebook has been friends only since the first day I made it. Even though I’ve abandoned Facebook and have not been on it regularly in over a year, I still didn’t want my information to get handled all willy-nilly throughout the Internet, so I logged in and (hopefully) negotiated the labyrinthine privacy settings to lock my profile down. It was a confusing and irritating process with way too many boxes to check, which is why Facebook is completely revamping its privacy settings to make them easier to navigate.
The Guardian has a step-by-step look at the new Facebook privacy filter, just in case you need it extra easy. If you’re like me, you can never have things explained to you well enough. I know that online privacy is basically an illusion, especially with Facebook, but I like to pretend that Big Brother’s not watching me. Facebook didn’t make that easy, since making my profile friends only was like performing ancient Greek algebra.
