I think anyone that’s ever had a job has had one of those days that were so bad you just wanted to get up, walk out, and never come back. I don’t think many of us have ever made that dramatic exit, but flight attendant Steven Slater did just that. After an altercation on JetBlue Flight 1052 from Pittsburgh to New York, where an irate passenger was pulling luggage down out of the overhead bin (and who hit Slater in the head with one of the bags), Slater flipped out. He grabbed the microphone for the PA system, cursed the passenger out, grabbed a beer from the galley, threw open the doors of the plane, slid down the emergency chute, and went home.
Unfortunately for Steven, the police were the next folks to arrive at his home in Belle Harbor, Queens. He was charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, and trespassing; he is being arraigned this morning on those charges. I guess his grand exit was a little too grand for the acceptability of the Port Authority of New York And New Jersey police department and his employers at JetBlue. Still, I can’t say I blame him. Dealing with angry people on airplanes is tough.
