If you’re old like me, you’ll remember that once upon a time, MTV showed videos that featured music playing behind them. They were called music videos, and at one time, they were super-important to getting people to go to the store and buy your cassette or CD (or record, if you’re really old). Well, that all changed, and now MTV is more reality TV and movie production company than music television, but hopefully the network’s first Twitter Jockey will change that.
Meet Gabi Gregg, a 23-year-old blogger from Detroit. She won the ZNYC MTV Twitter Jockey contest, which comes with a six-figure salary, relocation to New York City, and, oh yeah, becoming MTV’s first-ever TJ. Now, if this position gets music on TV? Then it’s great. If it’s relegated to MTV’s website and social networking streams? Meh, not so much.
