Olivia O’Neil had served as Miss Teen Wanganui in Wanganui, New Zealand, for three months without incident. She would have held onto her job had she not updated her Facebook page. You see, Olivia dyed her hair, and changing her hair color cost the beauty queen teen her crown. Going from a blonde to a brunette was enough to cause Miss Teen Wanganui organizers to fly off the handle.
When photos of the newly-brunette teenager hit the Internet, pageant organizer Barbara Osborne had a freak-out. “Is that a wig? …I hope it is, don’t give me heart failure” and “Oh my God, I hope it’s a demi,” were among her comments. When Olivia responded that if her new dark hair wasn’t pageant worthy, then she didn’t want the crown, Osborne complied with her wishes and stripped O’Neil of her title.
It’s not the first time someone’s been fired for Facebook comments, and I doubt it’ll be the last. Apparently the change in coloration was enough to cause Olivia and Miss Teen Wanganui to go their separate ways.
