It sounds like a bad 70’s-era blaxploitation kung-fu movie. “He’s the dopest Shaolin to ever stand up for the brothers! Rudy Ray Moore is Black Rice. Rated R, because the man don’t want you to see it!” However, black rice, also called forbidden rice, isn’t a movie or a person, it’s a food. Specifically, black rice is the latest super-food to become a weapon in the fight with cancer, thanks to its high antioxidant count. In fact, black rice may be better as a cancer-fighter than delicious dark chocolate!
“Just a spoonful of black rice bran contains more health promoting anthocyanin antioxidants than are found in a spoonful of blueberries, but with less sugar and more fiber and vitamin E antioxidants,” says researcher Zhimin Zu, who co-authored the black rice study. “If berries are used to boost health, why not black rice and black rice bran?”
Obviously, the solution is simple. If you want to avoid cancer, just make yourself a batch of black rice bran-based blueberry muffins with dark chocolate chunks. Brew up some green tea to wash it down with and viola, healthy!
