Mike Monteiro has lived in San Francisco for over ten years, but it’s not home to him and it probably never will be. Like most people in California, Monteiro is a transplanted resident. Originally from Philadelphia, he found his hard-nosed Philly attitude stuck out amongst the peace and love crowd of San Fran, and after yet another incident where his direct language was mistaken for rudeness and anger, he had to do something. That something was express his feelings via clothing, thanks to the amusingly truthful “I’m not angry, I’m from Philly” tee-shirt.
Little did he know he was creating a sensation amongst his fellow Philly natives. Not only is the shirt selling like hotcakes for the “deathly homesick” Monteiro, Philadelphia’s tourism industry is also embracing the shirt in spite of the message it might be sending about Philadelphia. “I’m glad he’s showing a sense of humor,” said Cara Schneider, spokeswoman for the Greater Philadelphia Tourism and Marketing Corporation. “That more than anything defines Philly.”
Well, a sense of humor, unreasonable taxes, and the worst sports fans in America.
