A golfer’s traditional battle cry, “Fore!” became a slightly altered battle cry of, “Fire!” over the weekend. While playing a round of 18 at the Shady Canyon Golf Course in Irvine, California, a golfer’s errant swing struck a rock. That rock sparked, and those sparks lead to an enormous fire. One bad golf swing caused a fire so massive it required 150 firefighters to contain it!
And I thought my golf game was terrible.
Fortunately for the golfer, no one was hurt in the blaze, which consumed 12 acres of hillside brush. The fact that it was scrub, not fairway, should suggest to you that this golfer is pretty bad, as if you couldn’t get that clue from the fact that he started a fire with an iron shot. As for the golfer in question, he wasn’t charged with any crimes, but it was suggested that he find a new hobby. Maybe tennis, since you tend not to set things on fire while playing that, even if you can hit other people from time to time.
