Tommy Dafoe might only be 24, but he knows something about lawns. Specifically, he knows how to make them grow, care for them, and cut them expertly. As the eponymous T in T’s Lawn Service, he ought to know his stuff. However, even Tommy’s skills were challenged when he put his lawn and relationship to the ultimate test: Tommy Dafoe used his grass to propose marriage to his long-time girlfriend.
Dafoe, clever boy that he is, fed and watered and manipulated his grass so the message “Will U Marry Me” appeared in his front lawn. Why he went for the textspeak rather than legitimate “you” I’ll never know, but then again the only color I know how to make my grass turn is brown, so I’m not going to complain too loudly. That takes some serious lawn-fu.
As for the marriage proposal? It was a surprise to 25-year-old girlfriend Kristi Volz, but a welcome one. “It didn’t even register until he got down on one knee,” Volz said. “Then I realized what was happening. I thought it was perfect.” Dafoe is now planning to turn his mad lawnmower skills on his next lawn message: “Just Married”.
