There’s something rotten in New York, and it’s more than just the bad attitude of the New York Giants. The city is in the grips of an infestation the likes of which hasn’t been seen since the pre-DDT days of pesticides. The problem is bedbugs, and they’re everywhere throughout the city. Worse for city officials, the bedbugs are spreading. First, the Empire State Building was bedbug-infested; now Nike’s flagship store Niketown is the latest store to close down due to bedbugs.
Nike’s only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to bedbugs. The little critters have also hit Google’s New York headquarters, Hollister, two Abercrombie & Fitch stores, a movie theater in Times Square, the Empire State Building, TimeWarner HQ, and who knows how many other buildings. There are just swarms of bugs absolutely wrecking the city right now.
Still, Nike closed the building the moment they heard about the bedbugs and are proactively trying to solve the problem. Said a company press release, “Our primary concern is the wellbeing of our consumers and sales associates. We are taking all proper steps to eradicate the problem and we expect the store to reopen shortly.”
