I hope you were able to look up at the stars last night, because you were in for a treat. Last night was the official last night of summer. Last night was also the harvest moon. This is the first time those two events have lines up in 20 years, and the result of the equinox and the harvest moon was a super harvest moon. In fact, the two events were as close together as they’ve ever been, with the official autumnal equinox falling at 11:09 PM Eastern time and the full illumination of the harvest moon this morning at about 5 AM.
If you missed your chance to see the harvest moon coincide with the autumnal equinox, don’t worry. It’ll happen again… in 2029. Hopefully, you plan on living that long and will want to see it again. Otherwise, there’ll be plenty of pictures of the moon to be parsed over. You won’t see any of that lunar water, but you will see the moon in detail like you’ve never seen before. Fry up a Great Moon Burger and celebrate!
