When you think of Italy, what do you think of? For me, it’s men with mustaches and women in fashionable clothing. However, not all of Italy is willing to ride the bleeding edge when it comes to fashion. In fact, one Italian town is taking a giant leap backwards, as the seaside Italian town of Castellammare di Stabia is planning to ban the miniskirt, among other items of clothing.
That’s the plan put forth by Castellammare di Stabia mayor Luigi Bobbio, a representative of the People of Freedom party. Freedom only goes so far, I guess. The new policy is summed up as, “Nothing too revealing,” according to Mayor Bobbio. Other things the People of Freedom are looking to ban: low-cut jeans, playing football in the park, sunbathing, and blasphemy. The new laws are up for vote today; the bans are being encouraged as part of an overall plan to reduce lewd public behavior and sexual harassment.
