When Jesus comes back on May 21, 2011, where’s he going to go first? Well, there’s an amusement park he might be interested in, because it’s based off of his life and times! A cooperative effort between Ark Encounters LLC and Answers in Genesis, the group behind the Creation Museum, have come up with $150 million dollars they are using to construct a religious theme park they’ve dubbed The Ark Experience in northern Grant County, Kentucky. The religious theme park, The Ark Experience, will feature a first-century Middle Eastern village, a full-sized replica of Noah’s Ark with animals, and a Tower of Babel.
The unusual religious theme park is expected to bring up to a million visitors a year to Northern Kentucky, according to studies conducted by Governor Steve Beshear’s office. Complaints that tax breaks for the theme park violate the separation between church and state are being brushed off by Governor Beshear, who believes that economic impact is economic impact, regardless of religious philosophy.
“Make no mistake about it, this is a huge deal,” said the Democrat governor of Kentucky. “There’s nothing that’s even remotely, unconstitutional about a for-profit organization coming in and investing a $150 million to create jobs in Kentucky and bring tourism to Kentucky. I think this project accentuates the faith of the people and the values of the people in Grant County tremendously.”
