There’s a weird thing happening in the happiest place on Earth. If you’re looking to visit Disneyland or Disney California Adventure in Anaheim, California, then you’d better get there early. During the first two days of the week this week, tickets have been hard to come by. Disneyland and Disney California Adventure tickets were sold out on Monday and Tuesday, with the two parks drawing an estimated 75,000 to 100,000 people per day! Disney has a whole lot of fans out there, to be sure.
“The crowds are huge,” said Al Lutz, editor of the Disneyland website miceage.com. “They’re close to 100,000 between both parks — that’s the record. I think they hit it [Monday], and they’re hitting it again,” thanks to California’s heavy rainfall. All the pre-Christmas rain “shifted all the traffic to this end of the holiday period. Normally this would have been spread out over two weeks; it’s all pent-up demand.”
There was so much demand that, for two days in a row, both Disney parks were turning people away. Disneyland sold out at 10 AM on Tuesday; Disney California Adventure sold out by 1 PM. I didn’t know Disney parks ever closed! I didn’t know it was possible for an amusement park to sell out, but Disney has done it twice thanks to record crowds.
