According to witnesses and the perpetrator, a horrible crime has happened in the rural community of Big Prairie, Ohio, between Columbus and Cleveland.  What is known is that a 10-year-old boy has shot his mother to death using the rifle she got him for Christmas.  Joey McVay, a 10-year-old boy from rural Big Prairie, Ohio, shot his 46-year-old mother Deborah McVay once in the head with a .22-caliber rifle.  The boy is known to have behavioral issues, so why his mother got him a weapon for Christmas is a little curious as Ohio is not bear country.

Joey McVay himself made the 911 call.  On the tape, he is heard to tell the 911 dispatcher to have rescuers, “Come as fast as they can.  I shot my mom.  I shot her with a gun.”

According to a witness, McVay deliberately shot his mother in the head with the rifle.  As a result, Holmes County Steven Knowling has charged young McVay with murder.  In Knowling’s 30-year career, McVay is the youngest murder suspect he’s ever seen.  “We don’t have homicides here, period.  In terms of people getting shot or stabbed, you can count them on one hand.”
