Mountain climbers are a brave breed, and Adam Potter is no different from the average climber. Well, except for the fact that Adam Potter might be the luckiest mountain climber in history. While scaling Sgurr Choinnich Mor near Ben Nevis, Scotland, mountain climber Adam Potter fell 1000 feet down a mountain and somehow survived unscathed. Talk about your miracle landings!
“We began to hover-taxi down the slope and spotted a man at the bottom, standing up. We honestly thought it couldn’t have been him, as he was on his feet, reading a map,” said Royal Navy helicopter rescue spotter Lt. Tim Barker, who was aboard the Sea King that rescued Potter. “Above him was a series of three high craggy outcrops. It seemed impossible. So we retraced our path back up the mountain and, sure enough, there were bits of his kit in a vertical line all the way up where he had obviously lost them during the fall. It was quite incredible. He must have literally glanced off the outcrops as he fell, almost flying.”
Potter was hiking with three friends and he’d just scaled to the summit when he somehow lost his footing and plunged down the side of the mountain. When he was found by the Royal Navy, he was standing up, walking around, and reading his map to figure out where he was. His only major injury was a chest injury; other than that minor wound, he was simply bumped and bruised. Incredible!
