Comic-Con opened up its online ticket registration today—wait, you don’t know what Comic-Con is? What sort of self-respecting nerd are you?
Comic-Con is a four day event celebrating the best (and most-niche) parts of popular culture. When it began in the 1970’s, the coordinators focused primarily on comic books, sci-fi and fantasy themes, and film and television. Over the decades, though, the convention has expanded to include a larger range of themes and elements, such as horror, anime and manga, video games, toys, collectible card games, and cartoons.
Comic-Con includes the seminars, panels, and workshops that are normally part of the convention format. In addition to those events, there are normally previews of upcoming films, awards ceremonies, an independent film festival, and a costume contest—the number of folks who dress up as their favorite characters to attend this shindig is staggering. If you’re planning on donning such a costume, though, you might want to work some Kevlar into your sailor dress. Some fans can get a little bit wacky.
Tickets can be purchased online through Comic Con’s website. And you can buy passes in single or four-day packages. But you’d better move quickly. The site is already reporting capacity issues, due to traffic on the registration page.
