For those who watched Ben Stiller’s movie “Night At The Museum” and thought it would be the coolest thing ever to spend an evening in the Smithsonian, the New York Public Library might have something planned just for you.
No, there won’t be a living version of Teddy Roosevelt riding a horse through the building, but 500 lucky people will get to spend an overnight stay in the venerable library using all the building’s resources for a treasure hunt. They’ll have permission to be in the building after hours, unlike the homeless guy who spent two weeks living in between the stacks of his local library.
Applicants can sign up at www.game.nypl.org for the big scavenger hunt in the library’s main building on the night of May 20. Those that aren’t selected for the adventure can play along online.
Players will be challenged to find 100 treasures and then write about them. All the stories will be compiled into a book for the library.
I don’t think this adventure would have quite the same impact if held in the library inside a phone booth.
