The latest casualty in the messy divorce between Frank and Jamie McCourt isn’t their twin houses or their fleet of cars, it’s their baseball team. The Los Angeles Dodgers, thrown into general disarray due to the messy divorce between Frank and Jamie McCourt, have been struggling in all aspects of the game. After the McCourts had to borrow money to make payroll, MLB commissioner Bud Selig had seen enough. Major League Baseball has taken over day-to-day operations of the Los Angeles Dodgers after owner Frank McCourt had to borrow money to make the team’s first payroll of the season. The Dodgers are more than $420 million dollars in debt, and that number seems to be growing.
“I have taken this action because of my deep concerns regarding the finances and operations of the Dodgers and to protect the best interests of the club, its great fans and all of Major League Baseball,” said Major League Baseball’s commissioner Bud Selig. “My office will continue its thorough investigation into the operations and finances of the Dodgers and related entities during the period of Mr. McCourt’s ownership.”
Even worse for Dodger fans, that wizard that the McCourts hired to send the team good karma hasn’t been working! The team is struggling in the rankings, attendance and season ticket sales are down, and Dodger Stadium has become kind of a dump better known for its violence in the parking lots than its play on the field.
