Given the specter of a NFL work stoppage and dispute between players and owners, there hasn’t been a whole lot of good news coming out of the NFL. Players can’t be traded or work out, and the draft preparations have been going on as usual, but with the belief that there may not be a season this year. In order to drum up a little interest for Madden 12, the 2012 edition of the very popular Madden series, EA Sports decided to have a vote to decide who gets the cover. The winner of this vote was the NFL’s surprise player of the year, Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis. Peyton Hillis is your Madden 2012 cover star, besting Michael Vick in a first-ever popular vote for the honor.
More than 1.09 million votes were cast, according to EA Sports, and Hillis bested Vick by a 2-to-1 margin. Hillis picked up 66% of those votes, thanks to a shockingly impressive 1177-yard rushing season last year for the Cleveland Browns. In his first two years in the league, as a Denver Bronco, Hillis ran for only 397 total yards. As for Michael Vick, he just had one of the most incredible comeback seasons in history as a Philadelphia eagle last season, but he’s done it before; we expect Michael Vick to be a star, but Peyton Hillis has been stuck playing fullback for most of his career, so his star turn was jaw-dropping.
