Keep ’em laughing, even from beyond the grave. When beloved comedy actor Leslie Nielsen died last November, I was a little bummed out. Even after watching Naked Gun again, it was a sad day. I love Leslie Nielsen, I love his style of comedy, and I love the way he could do the craziest thing with a completely stone face. It’s a testament to his acting skill that he was able to play both the heroic lead, the evil villain, and the buffoon with equal aplomb. It’s a testament to Leslie the person that even his tombstone has a joke on it. That’s right, Leslie Nielsen’s epitaph is a fart joke.
The grave, which is prominent in Fort Lauderdale, Florida’s, Evergreen Cemetery, is notable not just for the gas-passing epitaph, but also for the monument. His grave features a beautiful stone bench, emblazoned with the quote, “Sit down whenever you can.” Should my travels ever take me to Florida again, I’ll do just that.
