"Can you leave me alone?! I'm trying to play FarmVille!"
The war between Facebook and Google for the hearts and minds of the computing public fundamentally changed when Google launched Google+ (and will change further when Google+ goes public). That’s Google coming into Facebook’s house and rearranging its stuff. To get back some of the thunder stolen by Google, Facebook has been teasing a big announcement since late last week. That announcement was made yesterday. Facebook is adding Skype-powered video chatting to its various services.
If you’re thinking Facebook added video chat because Google+ has video chat, you’re probably right. Still, it’s only good to have a real competitor to Facebook’s dominance, if only because that’ll force Facebook to add features (such as this one). As anyone who watches professional wrestling could tell you, the competition between WCW and WWE was only good for the wrestling industry as a whole, and without that push, the WWE has been slacking.
