Janet Johnson and JaMichael Brown were told to expect a large baby. A few weeks ago, they were told their future son might weigh 12 or 13 pounds at birth, due to his mother’s gestational diabetes. Well, the joke is on the nurses and doctors at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, Texas; Janet Johnson’s baby wasn’t 12 pounds. JaMichael Brown was a 16-pound newborn baby boy. There have been some big babies, but this just may be the biggest baby born on American soil in, well, ever.
“It’s a beautiful baby, but for health reasons we’d rather not see a baby this large. They can have a little harder time maintaining their blood sugar,” said nurse Mary Beth Smith, who helped deliver the two-foot-long miracle. JaMichael is currently in the neonatal intensive care unit, though he seems to be in good health.
This 16-pound miracle baby easily bests a similar 14-pound baby born in California, but falls slightly short of the 19-pound baby born in Indonesia. Still, JaMichael is one of the largest babies ever born in the state of Texas, if not THE largest baby ever born in Texas, so he’s pretty remarkable. Fortunately, his mother, Janet Johnson, told everyone not to buy newborn clothing for her gigantic child.
