Alex Trebek: crime-fighting super bad-ass and quizmaster.
Game show hosts are often known to have a secret life, but apparently Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek’s secret life is that of a crime fighter. When Trebek and his wife woke up to find someone in their hotel room, rummaging through their stuff, Trebek leaped into action. The 71-year-old Trebek confronted the thief, who promptly ran. Trebek, refusing to give up so easily, gave chase. Game show host Alex Trebek injured himself while chasing a thief from his hotel room in San Francisco, California.
“I deal with answers and questions,” Trebek told the crowd at the National Geographic World Championship in San Francisco. “And today I’m going to start with the answer to a question I suspect is on many of your minds right now. The answer is ‘At 2:30 yesterday morning, chasing a burglar down the hall … until my Achilles tendon ruptured and I fell in an ignominious heap, bruising my other leg in the process.”
While Trebek didn’t detain the thief, his actions allowed his wife to call hotel security. When the accused criminal, 56-year-old Lucinda Moyers, tried to make a break for it, hotel security detained her until police arrived. She was charged with burglary and receiving stolen property. Meanwhile, people taking thousands of dollars from Trebek’s place of employment via answering questions is still encouraged.
