When the police knocked on an elderly woman’s door in Worthington, Ohio, there’s no telling what she expected. Trouble with her family? Some sort of accident? Being arrested for all that bank robbery? Who knows what was going through Lillian Bernhagen’s mind, but it doesn’t matter what was going through her mind; what matters is what was in her yard. A massive blimp had crash-landed in an elderly woman’s yard overnight! Talk about being in the right place at the right time.
“I didn’t expect to see one on the ground,” said 95-year-old Lillian Bernhagen, whose yard served as the blimp’s literal crash pad. “I’ve only ever seen one in the air. It really is quite an occasion to have a blimp land in your yard. I looked out the window and I said, ‘Wow!'”
According to the Lightship Group, the company behind the 130-foot (or 40-meter) blimp, the one that crashed in Ms. Bernhagen’s yard was the Hangar 1 Vodka blimp, which was making a tour of 30 states to promote the product in question. It was due to fly to Detroit on Thursday, but obviously that’s not happening now. Severe storms in Ohio brought the blimp down and will keep it out of action for quite awhile.
