When you gather together the world’s most beautiful women for a pageant, there’s going to be a high level of interest, no matter what else might be going on. That’s doubly true when you’re deciding who is going to be taking over for Jimena Navarrete as Miss Universe for 2011. Well, in case you missed the program last night, the winner has been decided. Meet the lovely and talented Miss Angola, Leila Lopes, who won the title of Miss Universe last night in front of an adoring crowd in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Miss Ukraine, Olesia Stefanko, was the funner-up. Rounding out the top five were Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup, Miss China Luo Zilin and Miss Brazil Priscila Machado. The 25-year-old Ms. Lopes is the first Miss Angola to take home the crown, as well as the first Miss Angola to crack the final five; she beat out 88 other women for the title of Miss Universe. Angola first entered the beauty contest world in 1998.
