Football is a sport that inspires fierce loyalty among its fans. A fan’s choice of a favorite team is often inspired by geographic location. Living close to a city that hosts an NFL team may make that the obvious selection as the team to follow. Loyalty to the state a person lives in can create an unwavering fan base for a college or university and can create intense rivalries with folks who follow another prominent team in the state. Often a fan’s loyalty is passed down through generations like a family heirloom.
The sport’s fan base is apparently getting younger and younger, if you judge by YouTube videos. Technology now allows us to share the emotions a win or a loss in these cases can evoke in impressionable youngsters. Nothing can break one’s heart like a loss by the Minnesota Vikings to the defending Super Bowl champ Green Bay Packers or the New York Jets losing to the Denver Broncos and the ever-growing legend that is Tim Tebow. And by the way, that Jets fan is one knowledgeable little man. He breaks down the AFC East division standings and the Jets’ playoff hopes better than some of the announcers on ESPN.
And I mentioned college rivalries earlier in this post. One of the fiercest in the nation is between those who follow the Auburn Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide as the young fan in the last video proves.
