Now that we’ve hit the mid point in December, everyone with an opinion is rolling out their list of the best and worst of just about everything imaginable from books to television shows to influential people.
Movie rental company Netflix will likely make several lists at the end of 2011 for some of its poorly thought-out business gaffes like splitting its services and raising its rates that led to customer revolts. Maybe in a move to end the year on a more positive note, Netflix released a list of its own. The movies that made this Top 10 reflect more than just a year’s worth of data. This Top 10 features the service’s most-rented movies since they began mailing red envelopes filled with DVDs to homes, and it’s a fairly eclectic list featuring dramas, action flicks and a touch of comedy. Many of the 10 most wanted were Oscar and Golden Globe winners and nominees. The year 2008 was most represented on the list with three of the 10 movies originally released then. Leonardo DiCaprio makes a couple of appearances, as do Jack Nicholson, Robert Downey Jr and Sandra Bullock. Speaking of Bullock, she earned an Oscar for her effort in Netflix’ most rented movie, The Blind Side.
