Are you trying to get from The Shire to Mordor? Well, Google Maps can help you. After all, Google added walking and bicycling directions to its map service, so you can figure out how to get anywhere you might want to go. However, Google Maps has a warning: one does not simply walk into Mordor. That’s right, if you enter The Shire as your starting point and Mordor as your end point, Google Maps contains a fun Lord of the Rings Easter egg. That’s right, Boromir works for Google now, apparently, and he’s full of advice on where NOT to walk into.
Not only is it funny, it’s also timely. After all, The Hobbit just got a trailer, so LotR fever is back and better than ever at the moment. No time like the present to dust off that matchstick model of Minas Tirith and get those LotR Legos out and ready for play time. Still, I wonder how long that Easter egg was hidden before someone discovered it. Surely this is a new thing, and not something that’s been hidden for ages.
