Strike up the band, it's another West Virginia touchdown!

Of all the bowl games in the run-up to the college football national championship, the one nobody was really paying attention to was the Orange Bowl.  Technically, it’s a BCS bowl game pitting the champion of the ACC versus the champion of the Big East, but that’s why nobody was really paying attention.  As it turns out, the matchup between the two worst automatic qualifier conferences was a record-setting affair.  Big East champ West Virginia University broke a bowl scoring record by smashing Clemson 70-33.

“Our guys felt like they weren’t getting too much credit,” West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen said. “And they wanted to make a statement in this game.”

A statement was made.  The Big 12 was put on notice that the West Virginia Mountaineers–their new conference companions–are an offensive force to be reckoned with, while the ACC’s decline continues unabated.  Meanwhile, the rowdy students of Morgantown, West Virginia, are given yet another reason to show why they’re a top-notch party school.
