Nick Saban is quite a college football coach. He won his first national championship as the head coach of LSU in 2003, and he followed that up with a second national championship in 2010. His Alabama Crimson Tide had a strong season this year, but in an epic clash between the number one and number two teams in the country, LSU topped Alabama in a hard-fought defensive struggle. However, that loss didn’t knock Alabama out of the national championship race, and as it turns out, it gave Alabama the education they needed. In the rematch between SEC titans, Alabama routed LSU 21-0 in the Superdome in New Orleans to win the 2012 BCS National Championship.
In many ways, it was a historic national championship game. It was the first time two teams from the same league competed for the top prize in college football. Nick Saban, with his victory, became the first person to win three BCS National Championships. In the process, he bested the man who replaced him at LSU, Les Miles. This is the first shut-out in BCS title game history. This is the third straight national championship for the state of Alabama (Alabama, Auburn, and Alabama again), and this sixth straight national championship for the SEC.
