These days, you can get just about anything delivered to your home. From books to groceries, you don’t have to leave your house to get anything if you time your orders right, and same-day delivery is becoming increasingly popular for more and more things, except for one area: fast food. If you want a burger and fries, you have to go get it yourself, but that may be changing. Four Washington, D.C.-area Burger King restaurants have rolled out a trial delivery service; the nation’s #2 burger joint is looking to expand this trial into other areas if all goes well.
It’s a wonder more places haven’t tried it. For a place like Domino’s Pizza, delivery is 70% of their business. Chinese food places have delivered for years, too. However, some places like Krispy Kreme and KFC have attempted delivery in the past, only to shelve the programs for various reasons or keep access severely limited. Maybe there’s too much cost involved in kicking off a new method of food sales.
“We wish them luck,” said Domino’s Pizza spokesman Tim McIntyre. “There is a reason that not all pizza places deliver: It isn’t easy.”
Especially if you’re delivering pizza to the moon.
