Much like the Iranian government’s rules on haircuts and USB’s rules on underwear, Disney is a large autocratic organization with very strict rules on what employees can and cannot do, wear, or have growing on their face. For example, the company of Walt Disney (a man with an iconic mustache) banned mustaches until 2000. Until two years ago, women had to wear pantyhose under their skirts in both California and obnoxiously hot Florida. Well, Disney is reversing an age-old ban on facial hair on men, allowing goatees and beards on employees.
Of course, since this is Disney, there are rules. The beard or goatee must be neatly trimmed and no more than a quarter inch in length. It must also “create an overall neat, polished and professional look,” according to the leaked memo. The new Disney Look guidelines were confirmed by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, the parent company of Disneyland in Anaheim and Disney World in Orlando.
In addition, the company is instituting a Casual Friday for employees not directly meeting with the public.
