If you want to scare someone, there are a lot of ways to do it. However, for most people, the most effective way to put a serious fear into them is to mess with their birth control. Even manufacturing mistakes can cause catastrophic family planning problems, so it’s no wonder that Pfizer has millions of women worried for their future. A packaging error by Pfizer has some birth control hormone pills out of order, which means that taking the affected packs correctly could result in an unplanned pregnancy. Thus, Pfizer is recalling a million packages of Lo/Ovral birth control and its generic equivalent in the United States.
The recall covers 28 lots of pills, 14 lots of Lo/Ovral-28 tablets and 14 lots of the generic. Both products are manufactured by Pfizer, the world’s largest drug maker, and sold in the U.S. by Akrimax Rx Products. Each lot of the pink-packaged pills, which say either the pill brand name or generic on them, can contain thousands of pills and affect millions of women. If you are taking this form of birth control, you are encouraged to contact your doctor immediately.
Here is the FDA’s information on the recall, including affected lot numbers.
