Sea lions are adorable, but they can occasionally be trouble.  Just ask Shakira.  While on a nature trip in Cape Town, South Africa, the Colombian singer got a bit too close for comfort with an aggressive sea lion.  As it turns out, the sea lion attacked Shakira, and her brother Tony Ripoll had to come to her rescue and shield her from the big beast.

“I was paralyzed by fear and couldn’t move, I just kept eye contact with it while my brother ‘Super Tony’ jumped over me and literally saved my life, taking me away from the beast,” said Shakira of her animal attack experience.  “I was complaining to my guide Andrew that I never get to see wild animals up close on adventurous trips.  Oh well, I can’t say that anymore!”

Shakira believes she was attacked by the Sea Lion thanks to her Blackberry, which she was using to take its picture.  She thinks that perhaps, the sea lion thought it was being taunted with food or something.  Sea lions generally don’t attack humans, with their aggression related to territory issues.  Still, she’s fortunate to have escaped unharmed given the size of the average sea lion.
