It’s okay for Maryland to have awful football uniforms as a way of getting attention, but certain classic things should not be messed with. One of these things is the uniform for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Navy or white jerseys, gold pants, and gold helmets. That’s what Notre Dame looks like, and that’s what Notre Dame should look like. Someone needs to tell that to Adidas, though. Adidas has designed special new Techfit uniforms for Notre Dame that are quite possibly the worst things I’ve ever seen. If you don’t believe me, go look at the photo gallery the South Bend Tribune has up and try not to vomit in terror.
“It’s compressive,” crowed Mark Daniels, adidas’ director of team sales. “You can’t grab it. You can’t tackle it. That’s more first downs. That’s more touchdowns. That’s more wins. We’re excited about it.”
The new uniforms will debut October 6, as Notre Dame takes on the Miami Hurricanes in what will be known as the Shamrock Series, a group of off-campus Notre Dame home games against various opponents around the country. Miami’s game will take place in Chicago at Soldier Field. Notre Dame will continue to play six home games, and will get all the revenue, television rights, and assorted other perks for the Shamrock Series home game.
