Paris Hilton thinks random gay hookups is not hot.
Sometimes I feel bad for Paris Hilton. Granted, she’s one of my least-favorite celebrities, but it seems like she gets into trouble with regularity over stupid things (when people aren’t breaking into her house). During New York Fashion Week, Paris Hilton was caught on tape making anti-gay remarks. While riding with a friend in the back of a cab, an audio clip of 50 seconds of Hilton making derogatory remarks about gay people was captured, or so the story goes. I think Hilton is actually a victim here.
I hate to do this, but I have to defend Paris Hilton here. What she said and what was reported are two different things, and her quote is taken out of context. When talking to her friend–an openly gay male model–in the back of the cab about his use of gay hookup app Grindr (which helps you find the closest available gay man for a hookup), Hilton said the following: “They’re disgusting. Dude, most of them probably have AIDS. I would be so scared if I were a gay guy. You’ll, like, die of AIDS.”
Are the remarks stupid? Probably, since she can be a pretty dumb girl. Are they perfectly reasonable? Of course. I seriously doubt Hilton hates gay people, or wanted to defame gay people, but using an app to find the closest available person for sex is just tempting fate when it comes to catching diseases. The most common way for men to get HIV/AIDS is via anal sex. Hooking up with anonymous strangers is also gross, no matter what your gender or orientation.
