“Hey, have you seen a box of eyes around here anywhere?”
They say the eyes are the window to the soul. If so, two men have left a big pile of windows at a Conoco gas station near Kansas City, Missouri. On Wednesday night, while stopped at the station, two men discarded a medical cooler with a bloody bag inside near the trash can between the fuel pumps. Turns out that inside the cooler was discarded eyes. That’s right, two men left a box full of discarded eyeballs at a gas station. I know it’s easy to forget stuff when you stop for gas, but that’s getting a little crazy, isn’t it?
“I’ve been at the Conoco for five years. By far this is the strangest thing that has ever happened,” station employee Latishia McClure said. “It was freaky, walking out there to that box … and opening it up and seeing those eyes.“
The box abandoned was marked Keep Refrigerated, and that’s why employees called the police when they finally noticed it. The gas station in the Kansas City suburb of Northland is near an eye bank, but the eye bank has not reported or noticed a theft of a crate of eyeballs. Ditto local hospitals on their stock of eyes. Officials are trying to determine if the eyeballs are human, animal, or other.
