Halloween is the time of year when the most macabre instincts in the human come out to play, and it’s not surprising. The holiday is marked by skeletons and ghosts and dead bodies galore, when costumed kids roam the darkness shouting “Trick or Treat!” and threatening onlookers with mild peril should they refuse to come forth with the treats. Well, it’s easy to understand why a dead body might be confused for a Halloween decoration. In Farmingdale, a community on New York’s Long Island, a 60-something woman was attacked and beheaded by a 30-something man before being dragged to the street and put on display. Neighbors thought the beheaded woman was part of a Halloween prank.
“There was blood all over the floor,” said witness Nick Gordon to the New York Post. “You can see smears going down the stairs … as if somebody were pulling a body.”
Indeed, he did pull the body, putting it out in the yard and kicking the severed head some 20 feet down the street. When neighbors went to check out the display, it turned out to be a dead body. Pretty gruesome, right? Well, rather than waiting around to be arrested, the beheading criminal did the cops a favor and jumped in front of the Long Island Railroad commuter train some 25 minutes later.
