When it comes to laying hands on a comedy classic, you have to be very careful, even if you have the track record of director Paul Feig. He’s one of the most popular directors out there, and he’s the guy that turned Kristen Wiig into a megastar and made Melissa McCarthy a household name. Even though he’s known and he’s good, the idea of anyone doing a Ghostbusters 3 makes people nervous. Maybe a cast list will quell those fears some? Paul Feig has announced the cast for his all-female Ghostbusters 3, and it’s pretty much a Saturday Night Live reunion with added Melissa McCarthy.
Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy have been a lock on the project well before it was ever announced, if only because none other than Bill Murray suggested that they join the cast. Joining those two–who were confirmed today–are Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, two of the funniest performers on Saturday Night Live‘s current class and now Ghostbusters. If nothing else, McKinnon can do big crazy eyes, which means she’ll be great at being scared.
“I love the first one so much, I don’t want to do anything to ruin the memory of that,” said director Paul Feig. “So it just felt like, let’s just restart it because then we can have new dynamics. I want the technology to be even cooler. I want it to be really scary, and I want it to happen in our world today that hasn’t gone through it so it’s like, oh my God what’s going on?”
If nothing else, I like this movie on paper (and in my doughnut box).
