Foul language is unavoidable, and it probably always has been. No matter what the morals police have implied about this new world, cursing has always been a thing, it’s just that what used to be a violent swear is now just a cheeky old-timer expression, consarn it. However, just because it can’t be avoided doesn’t mean it’s not something you want to actively seek out, and one Ohio parent says an otherwise innocent little plastic toy is teaching his son some inappropriate new vocabulary. A McDonald’s Happy Meal toy from the movie Minions apparently says something not family-friendly.
The toy says something that sounds suspiciously like “WTF”, but not bowdlerized by initials. Of course, it could just be a little babbling banana-colored goblin saying little banana goblin things, but that’s not what some Ohio parents claim to have heard. Having listened to the video, I don’t hear it myself, but I suppose you can’t be too careful considering what some animators are accused of inserting into the background of Disney films. McDonald’s, for their part, puts the cursing onto dirty-minded parents, not their toys.
‘Minions speak ”Minionese” which is a random combination of many languages and nonsense words and sounds,” said a McDonald’s spokesperson to My Fox 28 from Columbus, Ohio, where the toy was purchased. “‘Minionese’ has no translation to, or meaning in any recognized language. Any perceived similarities to words used within the English language are purely coincidental.’
