Garfield creator Jim Davis says he likes Garfield Minus Garfield.
A viral phenomenon hit the innertubes several months ago when Dan Walsh of Dublin created a website that just has cartoon character Jon Arbuckle by himself with all images of Garfield removed from panel.
The comic creates a very odd and surreal experience and to explain it would be difficult but it’s funny. Garfield Minus Garfield, for folks like me, is funnier than the original material. Arbuckle has always been the straight guy to Garfield’s antics. It puts a whole new spin on dated material of the orange fat cats sans the orange fat cat.
I know, confusing, but great for those who like the macabre. And very much a whole new spin on traditional pop culture icon.
Davis says he likes it, tells the Washington Post that ” … the work “an inspired thing to do” and wishes to thank Walsh for enabling him to see another side of “Garfield.”
