I think that, if you’ve read this site for more than a few days, you know just how much I love a good cryptid. No matter how crazy, realistic, or completely fake, if you invent or find or whatever a monster of some sort, I’m going to listen to the story about it. I’ll even convince myself to believe in it, if you work hard enough. That’s why you have to appreciate the work of turn-of-the-century prankster Eugene Shepard, the inventor/discoverer of the mythical black hodag of Wisconsin.
Just look at that thing; isn’t it crazy looking? Yet the people of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, have totally embraced their ugly monster. He’s even the mascot of the local high school! Like Kentucky’s Bigfoot, there’s even a Hodag Sightings website, completely with videos of actual hodag encounters!
You see, it’s cool stuff like this that ensures we’re going to totally win our war with the moon. All they’ve got is a bunch of green cheese and maybe some Radar Men. We’ve got pterodactyls and Nessie.
