Employees on a U.S. Airways flight from Atlanta, Georgia to North Carolina got a shock when, suddenly, a GWAR song broke out in the middle of the flight. No, nobody started singing about Techno Destructo, but maggots started to fall like rain from an overhead luggage storage bin as the plane was taking off. Thoroughly cautious and thoroughly grossed out, the plane immediately returned to Atlanta so passengers could be taken off the plane and the plane could be thoroughly cleaned.
Interestingly enough, the plane eventually flew to Charlotte as planned. However, once it landed, it was immediately taken out of service, possibly for boiling. The cause of the gaggle of maggots was a container of spoiled meat one of the passengers brought on board the plane. Of course, why airport security let a big maggoty box of meat through is unexplained. Also not explained is why someone would want to fly some rotten meat around with them. If you want candy full of bugs, just buy a maggot-filled Hershey bar from a gas station.
