One of the best and worst things about being a truck driver is the time. Either you can take your time and do whatever you want, or you’re rushing to deliver a load across country and you’re stuffing your face in traffic because you don’t have time to stop to eat. I’m not sure why FedEx tractor trailer driver Edward Sutherland was snacking behind the wheel, but he probably wishes he hadn’t now, because he drove his truck into a ditch while choking on a pork rind.
Fortunately, he was driving a mail truck and not a truck full of something hard to clean up. Sutherland, while choking, drove from the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 (near Blaine, Washington) into the northbound lanes, then off the road. Sutherland sustained minor injuries and will be sited for driving with wheels off the road. No other drivers were in the area at the time, and no one else was hurt.
