Usually, the act of putting one’s foot in one’s mouth is left to Vice President Joe Biden, who has never met a dumb comment he didn’t immediately blurt out in front of the press at an embarrassing time. However, even Joe Biden’s got someone he can look down on right now, and it’s Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Reid, the top Democrat in the Senate, was at a fundraiser for New York City mayor and charitable billionaire Michael Bloomberg when Reid referred to New York state junior senator Kirsten Gillibrand as the Senate’s “hottest member.”
Reid, during a speech, said that “many senators are known for many things,” before adding, “We in the Senate refer to Sen. Gillibrand as the hottest member.” Of course, he also went on to talk about her many accomplishments as a senator, but by that time everybody was too busy being shocked that Reid openly talked about how hot the Senate’s most recent mother was (Gillibrand gave birth to her second child in 2008) and kind of ignored the part where he praised her skills and fitness for leadership.
Then again, when your competition for hotness is Hillary Clinton, being the hottest Senator is like being the sexiest former witch running for Senator or the sexiest wife of a WWE chairman running for Senator. It’s kind of a backhanded compliment.
