When you think about compulsive users of Facebook, you don’t think of anybody over the age of, say, 30. Granted, some of the heaviest Facebook users I know are middle-aged folks, but I know some weird middle-aged folk and the average Facebook user skews closer to college than to the retirement home. Not Lillian Lowe. Lillian, a 103-year-old woman from Tenby, England, is thought to be the oldest person on Facebook.
“I love it — it’s very exciting. It’s a wonderful way of finding out about things,” said Lillian of her Facebook account. “I recommend it for any grandparents to keep in touch with family.”
Amazingly enough, last year Lillian didn’t have a Facebook account or an iPad. She was introduced to both of them by her 47-year-old grandson Steve. Lillian has 34 friends on Facebook, including her 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The previous oldest user of Facebook, Ivy Bean of Bradford, England, passed away in July at age 104.
