Somehow, it’s become an annual pop-the-bacon-flavored-popcorn and settle-on-the-couch television event. The Westminster Kennel Club’s Dog Show is now must-see TV.
It’s the perfect combination. Americans love their pets and their television.
Thanks to the Westminster’s popularity the world has been given the gift that is the wonderful movie “Best in Show” and an introduction to canine breeds we never knew existed. There’s lots more in the world of weird dogs than that mop-look-alike Puli breed.
Everybody knows Hickory is the latest Westminster Dog Show Best of Show, but wouldn’t you like a closer look at all the breeds. The New York Times has a gallery of photos with a pic of every Best of Breed that won during the 2011 Westminster Dog Show.
When you check out the winning dogs, be sure to look for the Lowchen. I’m a bit confused by that one. First I didn’t know there was such a thing as a Lowchen and secondly, is that hairless back-end a grooming choice or is it, as Lady Gaga said best, “Born This Way.”
