The long-anticipated wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton isn’t until the end of the month, but visitors to Legoland’s Windsor location after Friday will get an early look at the best part: the kiss they’ll share at Buckingham Palace. The theme park has recreated the entire scene in miniature, using its infamous tiny bricks.
The display consists of two scenes. In the first, William and Kate share a kiss in front of the palace while a crowd of celebrities, paparazzi and others look on. Amusingly, the celebrities depicted include Sir Elton John in a hat that seems better suited to the Kentucky Derby than a wedding, and what appears to be a very pregnant Posh Spice—either that or a swollen E.T. in a black frock. It’s kind of hard to tell, but cute either way.
The creators of this scene have broken from tradition by having the kiss take place on the grounds in front of the Palace, rather than on the balcony where William’s parents, Charles and Diana shared their kiss.
In the second scene, William and Kate have joined the rest of the royal family on the balcony. The bride stands prominently between her groom and her grandmother-in-law, the Queen. Prince Harry stands with his father Prince Charles and step-mother Camilla Parker Bowles in another alcove. Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton stand in another alcove to the viewer’s left.
You’ve got to applaud the painstaking effort and time it takes to create something like this, even if the results can prove chuckle-worthy. It may not be as awe inspiring as a six-foot Jesus made of Lego bricks, but it’s still pretty darn cool.
